Let’s talk about the important things in life: Toilet paper!
When I was a kid, we’d always have coarse, grey toilet paper at home. My mom didn’t buy the soft, white 3-ply stuff, because she knew it was bleached with chemicals that were incredibly harmful to the environment. The problem is bigger than you think: lots of everyday items put an unnecessary strain on natural resources, and most of us aren’t even aware.
But still… white and soft or coarse and gray?
While I appreciate my mother’s commitment to the environment, I decided to do things a bit differently for my BnB. While today’s recycled paper is a lot smoother and less gray, neither option really fit my vision of sustainability. I’m convinced that sustainability and luxury can go hand in hand, and I want my BnB to be living proof.
Fortunately, I found “The Good Roll,” a company that makes sustainable toilet paper that actually feels nice. It’s made of fast-growing, biodegradable bamboo and the production process is a lot kinder on the environment than that of traditional paper. As an added bonus, they’ve pledged part of their profits to sanitation projects in Africa.
In a nutshell, their brownish toilet paper was the perfect fit for my BnB. I wasn’t in love with the colour at first 😉, but it’s starting to grow on me. It’s quite appropriate, when you think about it. And how good does it feel to contribute to a more sustainable world – even when you’re on the toilet!
I’ve now also bought Good Roll kitchen paper and tissues, all in the same colour. The end result is that my BnB is now more sustainable, which always puts a smile on my face.
